Setlist History: Neil Young in 1990, Happy 74th Birthday Edition!

First thing is first, Happy dang BIRTHDAY to absolute rock legend Neil Young, who turned 74 years young today, November 12th. For decades, Young hasn't stopped rockin' in the free world, once! Perhaps this persistence and prolificness explains why Uncle Neil can get up on the stage and perform like it's the 1970s; as nothing in his guitar playing, piano playing or vocals has come close to faltering.

Young has had a busy and successful 2019. He embarked on a solo tour in the Spring, he performed at a number of festivals and in Europe with his side band, Promise of the Real, and put out a brand new album, Colorado, with Crazy Horse. Oh yeah, he also wrote a book, To Feel the Music.

As we celebrate another year of Neil Young, we want to share a special birthday edition of Setlist History and take it back to 1990, when Neil Young & Crazy Horse performed at The Mountain House in Woodside, California on his 45th birthday.

The '90s was a great year of resurgence for Neil. With the new decade, came a new album by NYCH - Ragged Glory, the album that gave us sweet licks like "Mansion on the Hill," "Country Home," "Fuckin' Up," "Love and Only Love," among others.

The Mountain House is rustic style restaurant which Young frequents and loves. It served as an appropriate venue to celebrate his 45th with Crazy Horse, his friends, family and fans. The night opened with everyone singing Young "Happy Birthday" before the band opened up their 19-song setlist with "Country Home."

Aside from songs off their then-new album, they also played some deep cuts like Re-ac-tor's "Surfer Joe and Moe the Sleaze," a track which hasn't been playing to this day since 2013.

Plenty of NYCH classics blessed the birthday set, like "Cowgirl in the Sand," "Don't Cry No Tears," "Down by the River," and "Cinnamon Girl." The set ended with "The Losing End." They also did rockin' renditions of solo Young cuts like "Bite the Bullet" and "Roll Another Number (For the Road)."

While Young isn't performing any shows on his 74th, we hope that he has a well-deserved, incredible day. In the meantime, we'll anxiously wait for NYCH to announce a tour in support of their newest record.

Keep up with everything Neil on his archives website.
