Highlights From Mike Shinoda's Monster Energy Outbreak Tour

In the aftermath of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington's passing, bandmate Mike Shinoda has figured out his own way to deal with the trauma the way he knows best, through music. After the band went into an indefinite hiatus, Shinoda started writing, making him the first of his bandmates to emerge musically since the tragic event.

This year, he released a solo album called Post Traumatic, a therapeutic means of dealing with Bennington's death.

"Grief is a personal thing, a personal experience," Shinoda exaplained in an interview.

"Relatively early on I had a feeling — I didn't know, but I had a feeling — that things would get better, or they just wouldn't stay the same. We'll obviously never forget our friend. We'll always remind everybody how special and talented he was. But at the same time it'd be unhealthy and irresponsible for us not to move on with our lives at a certain point."

So I had a feeling that with that journey ahead, and not knowing what shape it would take, that it would be interesting, and to share it would probably be difficult but in the long run it would help some people. I just felt like it would be worth sharing."

Shinoda has done an exceptional job relying that feeling on his current Monster Energy Outbreak Tour, which kicked off last month and will wrap up with a set at KROQ's annual Acoustic Christmas on December 9th. Keep on reading for the highlights and Shinoda's setlist secrets!

Special Guests

Rock-rap newcomer grandson has joined Shinoda at three gigs to perform Post Traumatic song "Running From My Shadow," a song they collaborated on together. He's been one of the opening acts on the tour, and joined him in Philadelphia on October 14th, and then again in Los Angeles on November 2nd and in San Francisco on November 6th. Watch a video of that below.

A Fun Halloween Gig

During a pre-Halloween set on October 30th at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, Shinoda opened the up the night by covering Run D.M.C.'s "It's Tricky," and dressed perfectly for the occasion in a full Adidas tracksuit, giant gold chain, and bucket hat. Watch a performance of that below.

He also had Linkin Park bassist Dave Phoenix Farrell, back him up toward the end of the set for seven of the band's hits. See that setlist below.

Words of Endearment

Shinoda makes certain that the fans at the each gig feel safe, comforted and are having a good time. He reassured the crowd in Los Angeles at the Palladium:

“If you’re here because Chester was your absolute favorite singer and you feel sad, that’s OK.” Shinoda said. “If you’re here because you love Linkin Park and want to hear those songs, that’s OK, too. If you’re here because I’m your favorite singer, I question your taste, but that’s cool, too.”

His Backing Band

Shinoda has enlisted U.K. multi-instrumentalist Matthias Harris and Israeli drummer Dan Mayo as his backing band to bring life to each and everyone of the songs.
