Eagles Of Death Metal Pay Tribute to 2015 Bataclan Victims In Paris

It was a mournful homecoming for California rock band Eagles of Death Metal on the two-year anniversary of the terror attack at Le Bataclan in Paris. Jesse Hughes and guitarist Dave Catching paid an emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy that took place at their show. The band delivered a surprise performance on Monday by performing a cover of Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer,” from 1982’s Rio and their fitting song, "I Love You All the Time," off 2015’s Zipper Down.

Eagles of Death Metal Tribute

Eagles of Death Metal were performing at Le Bataclan on November 13 and they were in the middle of “Kiss The Devil” when terrorist gunmen stormed the venue. The horrific scene took the lives of 89 individuals and was one of six coordinated attacks on Paris that evening that killed a total of 130 people. The duo’s memorial ceremony yesterday was organized by the survivors of the attack, which took place at the town hall of the 11th district. Musicians such as Josh Homme, who drums for Eagles of Death Metal yet was not touring with the band at the time of the attack and Elton John covered Duran Duran's "Save a Prayer” to raise money for the victims' families.

If you’ve seen post-interviews or HBO’s documentary on the event with lead singer Hughes, you can see it written on his face how deeply distraught he was over the events that occurred. “I’m so happy and pleased to see all of you,” Hughes said to the crowd, before handing them white roses. “The only reason we’re still standing is because you all still love rock and roll.” After the performance, Hughes spoke to reporters on remembering his friend Nick Alexander, the band’s merchandise manager, “It is difficult to not to remember the people who were taken from us like our friend Nick Alexander and so many others. We watched people give their lives for their friends and we were able to bear witness to that, and now we have a burden of responsibility to make certain that everyone knows that kind of love exists in this world.”

Eagles of Death Metal can next be seen at the Hollywood Palladium on December 13. They have a slew of shows late in January, beginning with an appearance on Save on Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, Canada on January 22. Founded in 1998 by Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme (Queens of The Stone Age), Eagles of Death Metal’s debut album was 2004’s Peace, Love, Death Metal. Their fourth and last album was 2015’s Zipper Down.
