Weird Al Played a 22-Song Setlist On His Birthday in 1981

Today, October 23, Weird Al Yankovic turns 61 years old. To celebrate our favorite scorpio satirist, we've dug out a very special birthday setlist from the archives.

In this Setlist History Birthday Edition, Weird Al played a show at Knott's Berry Farm on October 23, 1981. This was Al's first year of touring as part of Dr. Demento's stage show, when he was still rocking his "classic" look which featured his staple glasses, mustache, and short curly hair.

It was the first show of his five-night residency at the theme park, located in Buena Park, California. He opened up the spooky night with a set of four songs that fired off with an obligatory "Happy Birthday" before going into "If I Could Make Love to a Bottle." The set carried many songs off his debut self-titled, but he also worked in a Dare to Be Stupid cut for the Set 1 finale - "Yoda"!

The second set got started with one of Weird Al's first ever hits, "My Bologna." This song has only been performed around 39 times, the last time being 1983. Another rarity he performed was a punk version of "You Light Up My Life," which has only been played 7 times and was retired after the Knott's residency.

Many more deep cuts made up the setlist like "It's Still Billy Joel To Me," "12th Street Rag," "Gotta Boogie," and set ender "Shaving Cream," which was live debuted AT this show and last played November 1, 1981, the last day of his Knott's shows.

We're wishing Weird Al a very happy birthday today!
