Machine Head Celebrate 25th Anniversary of "Burn My Eyes" Live!

Twenty-five years after the release of their debut album, iconic heavy metal band Machine Head has headed out on a tour in celebration of that very anniversary. Deemed the Burn My Eyes 25th Anniversary Tour, it was clear that this show was going to be unforgettable from the moment it kicked off in Germany at the beginning of the month.

As with any debut record, Burn My Eyes means a great deal to the Oakland natives who originally formed in 1991. And while they’ve undergone a few lineup changes throughout the years, this tour has found a way to forgo that fact, welcoming back original members Chris Kontos (drums) and Logan Mader (guitar) for part of every set.

Following the tour announcement back in March, founding member Robb Flynn (guitar & vocals) had a few words to say regarding the show —

Considering their immense success in Europe since the start of their career, it made perfect sense that the American heavy metal pioneers would open the tour with a two-month long run across Europe and the UK. However, following their time across the pond, Machine Head will make their way back to the United States and Canada for a Winter 2020 leg before heading back to Europe in the Spring.

Fortunately, with so many dates to choose from, audiences across the globe will have their chance to catch this once-in-a-lifetime celebratory tour, and we can promise you won’t want to miss it.

It goes without saying that Machine Head are bound to put on a great show with their musicianship alone. Combine that with a coordinated beamed light production, and the performance itself is unmatched. But what has really shined throughout the first few dates of this tour is the setlist.

With the 25th anniversary of Burn My Eyes at the forefront, it’s only expected that the band would seek to play the album at every show. In fact, the guys play through the entirety of the record live for the first time in the band’s history. From “Davidian” to “Block,” fans should anticipate going nuts from start to finish.

But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. While playing through their debut album for the first time live already cements this tour’s setlist as one of the best in Machine Head’s history, the album itself takes up less than half of the show’s full set.

To start off the show, Machine Head opens up with a combination of around sixteen classics. Pulling a great deal from more recent albums like Unto the Locust (2011) and The Blackening (2007), the heavy metal legends are sure to harp on modern hits such as “Locust,” “I Am Hell (Sonata in C#)” and “Darkness Within” along with “Beautiful Morning,” “Aesthetics of Hate” and “Halo.”

However, don’t be fooled by those modern twists as Machine Head have mixed up their part one set sporadically throughout the tour, also taking from their sophomore album The More Things Change… (1997) as well as their third full studio release The Burning Red (1999). Including songs like “Ten Ton Hammer,” “Take My Scars,” “From This Day” and “The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears,” the first part of the show is sure to bring crowds back to the nostalgic roots of a band’s packed history.
