Motionless in White is officially “Touring The End Of The World,” kicking off their latest trek with a metalcore-loving hometown extravaganza. The Scranton Apocalypse Fest took place on September 16th in the band’s HQ of Scranton, PA, with support from Knocked Loose, The Amity Affliction, Parkway Drive, and more!
It was a hauntingly heavy night packed with powerful screams, epic mosh pits, and everything in between. And believe it or not, this was just the beginning of the goth rock realness you’ll get on this Motionless in White tour. As we await the rest of their shows with openers Knocked Loose, After the Burial, and Alphawolf, why not talk about the enchanting event that was The Scranton Apocalypse Fest? Motionless in White took control of their genre by aiming to create their own mini-Coachella for metal giants. And they certainly succeeded.
The first rule of metal music? You simply cannot stand still while your favorite bands are playing, and the crowds at Scranton Apocalypse Fest understood the assignment. Every group worked through a jam-packed set with harmoniously heavy sing-alongs (or rather, scream-alongs), especially when Knocked Loose got onstage. Frontman Bryan Garris is known for his distinctive voice, which paved the way for some of the most chaotic mosh pits you’ve ever seen.
Have you seen people throw down during the best punk-meets-metal hits by Knocked loose, like “Deep In The Willow,” “Denied By Fate,” and “Belleville?” It’s a sight to behold for any rock music enthusiast, and created incredible vibes for the headlining performance. That's right; it's about time we talk about Motionless in White, because the macabre metalcore heroes were as epic as you’d expect. They opened the set with a live debut of “Meltdown” before diving into a 17-song setlist of intricate riffs, booming breakdowns, and ragey-but-relatable lyrics.
The group has been touring all year in support of its sixth and latest record, 2022’s Scoring the End of the World, and played a variety of new favorites throughout the night. These include “Sign of Life,” “Masterpiece,” “Werewolf,” and of course, “Slaughterhouse,” in which they brought Bryan Garris back out to the stage to reprise his guest vocals and growls from the album. When he and Chris Motionless belted out the pre-breakdown chorus of “One mutilation under God!,” the crowd launched into a series of hardcore dancing and shameless headbanging. And it set the mood for what’s destined to be one of the best metal tours of 2023.
As Motionless in White continued their set, attendees got lost in a spectrum of insane special effects, rhythmic screams, and crowd-surfers who were partying like they were, well, touring the end of the world! The band also had a few surprises in store, performing “City Lights” for the first time since 2012 and “Not My Type: Dead as F*** 2” after four years. And then there was the cover of “Nothing Ever After” by Illenium, in which they incorporated a little EDM into their signature goth aesthetic!
Older fans even got to sing along to classic Motionless in White songs like “Reincarnate,” “Devil’s Night,” “Rats,” “Immaculate Misconception,” and more, making The Scranton Apocalypse Fest an event they’ll never forget. As Motionless in White ended the night with a one-song encore of “570,” it was obvious that fans weren’t ready to say goodbye just yet. And luckily, they won’t have to! The group will has plenty more dates lined up with their Knocked Loose and more of their metal friends, and you definitely don’t want to miss it!
