Whitesnake Play 16-Song Set on David Coverdale's Birthday in 1990

Today, September 22nd, British rock legend David Coverdale turns 69-years-old. To celebrate his legacy we're remembering Whitesnake's concert from Coverdale's 39th birthday, which took place on September 22nd, 1990.

30 years ago today, Coverdale was celebrating his big day in Kobe, Japan at the WORLD Kinen Hall. The show was a stop on the band's Liquor & Poker Tour, their last tour before Whitesnake went on hiatus for four years.

This particular show was near the end of the 1990 tour. The tour was in support of their 8th studio album, Slip of the Tounge, so the concert opened up with the record's title track. They weaved in 4 other songs off the album throughout the set, including "Cheap N' Nasty" and "Judgement Day."

The set was gifted with an array of solos, from guitar theatrics by Adrian Vandenburg and Steve Vai, to drum solos during "Crying in the Rain." They even did an a cappella version of "The Deeper of Love."

Their hit single "Here I Go Again" was unveiled toward the end of the set, it's their most performed song to date. The two-song encore ended on their second most performed song to date - "Still of the Night."

In recent Whitesnake news, the band is gearing up to release a new "Love Songs" compilation, due out in November.

"As most of you know, pretty much all the songs I write are love songs in some way, shape or form. These are some of my favorites. Not all are ballads. Some are out and out rockers with powerful romantic themes…and of course…include heavy breathing in all of them!!" - Coverdale

Keep your eye out for that! Happy Birthday David!
