Neil Young + Promise of the Real Debut "My Heart" + "New Mama"

Neil Young + Promise of the Real headed to Indianapolis last night, September 19th, for a one-off concert at the Murat Theater. Over the course of the night, they performed a whopping 20 songs that included performances of songs he's never done with POtR, including "My Heart," a Neil Young & Crazy Horse cut off Sleeps with Angels that Young himself hasn't performed since 1995. Before last night, he's only performed the song four times since its live debut in 1994.

Immediately after, they performed "New Mama." Young recently dusted this track off last weekend, and had POtR perform it as well - this is the first time they did the song together. Before last weekend, Young hadn't performed that track in over 40 years!

Other gems in the night included the opening numbers which featured Young solo and acoustic, performing “After The Goldrush” and “Sugar Mountain.”

With the band, they cherry-picked through both Neil staples and deep cuts, doing songs like "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere," "Ohio," "Don't Cry No Tears," "Like an Inca," and "Fuckin' Up."

Toward the end of the main set, Lukas Nelson took over the vocal reigns for a cover of Kurt Weill's "September Song," a fitting tune for the month. Next up was his brother Micah, who got to perform his band Particle Kid's song "Everything is Bullshit."

Young + POtR came back out for a THREE song encore, which included "Don't Be Denied," "Roll Another Number (For the Road," and said farewell with Buffalo Springfield's "Mr. Soul."
