Tour Highlights: Billy Joel

Fresh off a European tour, Billy Joel has taken the U.S. by storm. Joel has taken his collection of piano ballads and rock n' roll hits to major cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Kansas City, Chicago and New York City.

Though he's established a residency at New York's Madison Square Garden, the "Piano Man" and his live band spent a good chunk of the summer on the road, equipped with covers ready for any occasion, special guests and, of course, his piano.

Let's take a look at some recent highlights.

Philadelphia, PA (07/27)

After a rain delay pushed back the show nearly an hour, Joel poked fun at the weather in his set, covering Prince's "Purple Rain," The Beatles' "Rain," Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain" and more.

Boston, MA (08/10)

Joel ran through a great mix of cuts and hits in his fifth consecutive year performing at Fenway Park. He channeled his inner-Bostonian with a cover of Boston's "More Than a Feeling" and sang classics, "Zanzibar," "Summer, Highland Falls" and "Vienna."

He even brought out a few special guests: J. Geils Band frontman, Peter Wolf, and Def Leppard's Joe Elliott.

New York, NY (08/31)

In his 101st residency show, Joel paid tribute to the late Aretha Franklin with a cover of her famous "Respect." He introduced the classic by calling Franklin "one of the greatest singers of all time" before tossing vocal duties to Crystal Taliefero, a longtime member of his live band.

Joel welcomed Bryan Adams to the stage to sing "Summer of '69" and "You May Be Right" to close out the show.

Chicago, IL (09/07)

The music legend played a full house with quite the dynamic set, blending his bigger hits with deeper cuts that aren't usually performed in concert. Opening with "Big Shot" and "My Life," Joel paid tribute to the Windy City by playing "Chicago (That Toddlin' Town)."

Some standout numbers: "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)," an extended version of "New York State of Mind," and a surprise performance of "Layla."

The "Thirty-Three Hit Wonder," as he was once called by The New Yorker, has a few more performances lined up before the New Year.
