Foo Fighters Rock Sziget Fest With Help From Inspirational Fan

Do the Foo Fighters ever stop? As we enter the latter half of 2019, the legendary rock band continues to dominate the festival scene across the globe. Having already played numerous festivals since the start of the year, the Foo Fighters are sticking to that trend as they trek across Europe on their never-ending festival tour.

After a short break in July following six shows in Croatia, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden, the Foo Fighters are back east on another brief festival leg. As of now, the band is set to play Summer Sessions in Glasgow (8/17), Vital Festival in Belfast (8/19), RDS Arena in Dublin (8/21), Leeds Festival in Leeds (8/23) and Reading Festival in Reading (8/25) through August, before heading back to the U.S. and South America for a few dates in the fall.

To kickoff this late summer tour, the Foo Fighters took their set to the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary last night and what a show it was. As with many festival shows, production is not always a top priority, but music sure is. The Foo Fighters rallied through a twenty-two song setlist during a thunderstorm with the help of bubbles and an inspiring fan. Yes, you’re reading that correctly.

Opening the show with their 2002 hit “All My Life,” the eleven-time Grammy winners continued in that direction, performing classics like “Learn to Fly,” “Times Like These,” “My Hero,” “Monkey Wrench” and for the first time in 2019, “Hey, Johnny Park!.”

Of course, Dave Grohl and company were sure to throw in a surprise or two along the way, performing a cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” in which Grohl headed to his rightful place at the drum kit while longtime member Taylor Hawkins took over on vocals.

Ending the show off with high energy, the rock legends remained on stage without an encore to perform “Everlong” alongside a special guest from the audience. Following the completion of “This Is a Call,” Dave Grohl asked lighting to illuminate the crowd so he could take a final look at the packed-in audience. One fan in particular immediately caught Grohl’s attention as he crowd surfed in his wheelchair towards the left of stage.

Impressed and inspired by the die-hard fan, Grohl invited the mystery man on stage to watch the final performance from the best view in the house, but not before encouraging another fan with bubbles to blow bubbles around the venue for the remainder of the show.

Crowd surfing his way up to the front, the fan in a wheelchair made his way to stage at Grohl’s request. After a long embrace with the Foo Fighters’ frontman, he wheeled his way to the side wings to watch his favorite band finish off the concert from just a few feet away. However, his nirvana moment didn’t end there. Grohl then brought him back out on stage to join in on the band’s final bow before letting him smash Grohl's own Gibson in front of a blisteringly loud crowd. What a special moment to remember for all parties involved.
