Foo Fighters Perform Rarities at LA Pop Up Show

Fans of the Foo Fighters were just milling about, innocently shopping at a pop-up store outside the LA Palladium, when all of a sudden...it happened. Out of nowhere, the Foo Fighters were in a parking lot performing a set filled with rarities for the assembled crowd.

Okay, so that’s not quite how it happened. The performance was actually announced ahead of time. But it was listed as “Chevy Metal,” which is Foo drummer Taylor Hawkins’s cover band, with a special appearance from “The Holy Shits.” While the Foo Fighters have performed as “The Holy Shits” before, it was still a bit of a surprise for fans gathered at the pop-up store, to grab boasted exclusive merch, along with some awesome photo opps. These included a chance to sit in the throne Dave Grohl used while on tour with a broken leg in 2015 as well as take a pic with the actual white limousine from the music video for (duh) “White Limo.”

Speaking of that song, it was actually the one that kicked off the Foo’s totally free live set. Among songs included in the 9 song set were “Congregation,” “Weenie Beenie,” “Hey, Johnny Park!” and, for the first time since 2008, “Gimme Stitches.” Despite mostly being songs the band doesn’t perform in “non-parking lot shows,” according to Grohl, there was a single exception: as an encore the band played their massive hit “Everlong.”

If you missed the show and/or just want more Foo-y goodness, good news! CalJam takes place October 5-6 and the Foo’s will be there. The festival will also feature live performances by Garbage, Iggy Pop, Tenacious D, Greta Van Fleet, Billy Idol and many more. Plus, they will have movies, camping and a waterpark on location, so tell me, how can you say “no” to that?
