Concert of the Day: Phish's 19-Song Set in Northampton 1989

Phish are back for their 15th Tuesday “Dinner and a Movie.” With no sights of quarantine coming to an end, these weekly livestreams have been a godsend. This week’s gem is Phish’s Pearl Street concert in Northampton, Massachusetts on May 1st, 1989. It was right before the band released their first studio album Junta. Read some backstory to the show below:

Phans will be treated to the second set of their 19-song setlist full of some of their best ‘80s licks. The 10-song Set 2 will go live at 5:30 PM PDT on their YouTube Channel, and they will be accepting donations for NIVA, the National Independent Venue Association. Pregame with some setlist goodies before you kick back and enjoy the show tonight!

Although the first set won't be aired, it's still worth mentioning. The first set actually kicks off with the theme of the night - “Dinner and a Movie.” Nine songs make up Set 1 and they played everything from “You Enjoy Myself” and “The Lizards,” to a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times Bad Times” to end the set. FUN FACT: "You Enjoy Myself" was Phish's most performed song of 1989.

Set 2, where the livestream will lift off, fires off with “Mike’s Song” and takes you on a joyous ride with cuts like "Weekapaug Groove," "Possum," "David Bowie" and closing jam "Contact." They work in one other cover during the second half - Allen Toussaint's "On Your Way Down."

As you're well aware, we're not just fighting against one pandemic, but two. Racism is a deadly virus and it's more important than ever to stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Movement. Phish implores their Phans to do exactly that, read their message below:
