Quarantini Hour: Joe Cotela of DED Shares How He Stays Busy

Metal rockers DED had just released new music and were gearing up for a massive US tour with In This Moment and Black Veil Brides when the pandemic put a pause on everything.

Their two-song EP Mannequin Eyes dropped on March 12th and you can watch the brand new music video for "A Mannequin Idol" below:

DED vocalist and frontman Joe Coleta joins setlist.fm for Quarantini Hour to talk about how he's been holding up in isolation and making use of all this spare time. Check it out!

How have you / your band been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic?

In endless ways, we were supposed to be on a full US run right now with In This Moment and Black Veil Brides. We released new music right as all of this hit, days before they started quarantining. Everything has stopped as planned and we’ve had to completely regroup in a seemingly new world.

Paint us a picture of your current headquarters.

I’m with my love in NY. Staying safe and laying low at home in our house. Lots of cooking, a lot of music and a lot of peaceful yoga and workouts.

What activities have you been doing to keep yourself busy?

Playing a lot of guitar and singing, watching movies and shows, working out a lot, walks, yard work, cooking so much, a lot of home stuff.

What movies and TV have you been watching?

Curb Your Enthusiasm, War of the Worlds, Ozarks, Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Broad City, Rick and Morty, King of Queens, Seinfeld etc.

What music or podcasts have you been listening to?

I listen to comedians like Bill Burr and Chris D’elia as well as music podcasts "The Jasta Show," "Lead Singer Syndrome" etc.

Are you planning on tuning into or producing any livestream performances?

I’ve done a couple livestreams, I recently did one with my bud Brandon Saller from Atreyu and working on many more.

How can fans support you in this time of tour postponements and social distancing?

Buy merch online, stream music, buy music, spread the word to friends, request us on the radio... only inside of their means though. Life comes first!

What’s your best song for getting through a scary/confusing time?

I really have been diving into a lot of oldies like Bob Marley, The Eagles, Tom Petty, CCR... my song I’d say would be “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby Mcferrin.

What are a few of your best songs for an at-home workout playlist?

Black Breath “Sentenced to Life”
END “Necessary Death
Emmure “Gypsy Disco
Dropout Kings “Glitch Gang
Beartooth “Bad Listener
Wage War “Stitch”
In This Moment “God Is She
