For a band to make it a decade is impressive. Two decades? Commendable. But when a band hits four decades, that’s something else entirely.
That’s why Toto have embarked on an epic tour to celebrate the anniversary of their first album, Hold the Line. The first show of “The 40 Trips Around The Sun Tour” happened in Helsinki, Finland, on February 11, with a setlist composed of both old and new.
During the first part of the show the band played “Alive” for the first time as well as “Spanish Sea,” but also played hits like “English Eyes” and “Jake to the Bone” for the first time in a decade. The “Acoustic Storytellers” section saw the live debuts of “Miss Sun” and “No Love” while also bringing classics like “Holyanna” as well as a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.” The second set included “Angela,” which hadn’t been performed live since 1993, and “Dune (Desert Theme)” which Toto last played on stage in 1988. They also included a cover of the Beatles tune “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and, of course, “Africa.”
Toto has announced dates across Europe for this spring, but with more dates to be announced later on. In an officially statement, fans are promised that “The tour will be the band’s most extensive run in years and will be a worldwide tour to celebrate the band’s enduring career.” So keep an eye out for more dates as they’re announced.
