TBT! In 2004 The Killers Live Debuted "All These Things" in Vegas

"I got soul, but I'm not a soldier."

Any kid who grew up in the early 2000s will attest that the refrain from The Killers' smash hit "All These Things That I've Done" was a defining lyric of the time. Sixteen years later, the song is considered by many to be one of the greatest of all time.

On this day in 2004, The Killers live debuted "All These Things That I've Done" at an intimate hometown show in Las Vegas ahead of the release of their debut album Hot Fuss. Their song "Mr. Brightside" had premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC 1 Radio show in the UK a few months before, and they were just returning from a tour in London after signing a stateside deal with Island Def Jam.

They were scheduled to head back to the UK on January 24th, so the night before, they took the stage at the Ice House Lounge in Vegas – which was based on an early 1900s-era industrial ice house nearby – for a themed night called "Burning Down the House." Friends and family remember that timeframe as their jump from "local band" to "international rockstars."

They performed songs like "Mr. Brightside," "Somebody Told Me" and "Andy, You're a Star" (the latter for the second time) which would go on to be some of the most popular Hot Fuss tracks merely 5 months later (note: this setlist is incomplete).

"That was the first time we ever played ‘All These Things That I’ve Done,'" bassist Mark Stoermer recalls.

"It was one of the songs that we didn’t do until we went in the studio and we played it for the first time live there. After that show at the Icehouse, we continued to go back to the U.K. and things were kind of taking off ... The next time we played Vegas was for the Carson Daly Show at the Hard Rock and our album was out."

That year, Hot Fuss and its first three singles received 5 Grammy nominations. The album went on to sell more than 7 million copies worldwide, and has been referred to as one of the greatest debut albums of all time.
